Why I Built My Own Fleet App

Founder Insight | When No One Builds It, You Build It Yourself

I couldn’t find a system that worked — so I built it.

Fleet after fleet, I kept running into the same problems: no structure, no software, no system. I stopped waiting for a fix and built one. It meant reading manuals most people ignore, meeting vendors no one cared about, and piecing together a machine that could scale. Most people want the wave. I just wanted to be ready when it came.

I didn’t set out to build software. I just needed something that worked.
But after juggling vendor portals, scattered texts, and missed service logs across cities, I realized something:
No one was solving the real problem for fleet operators.

So I built it.

The Problem

We were scaling fast—three markets, dozens of techs, hundreds of vehicles.

But our systems?

  • Techs took notes on paper
  • Customers called or texted when they remembered
  • Dispatch was held together by Slack and Google Sheets
  • There was no way to track what actually got done

It wasn’t sustainable. If I wanted to grow, I needed software made for my business.

The Solution: TN App

We created the TN App & Web Portal to solve real-world problems:

  • 📸 Before/After Service Photos
  • 📍 Technician Routing + Check-ins
  • 🔧 Real-Time Repair Status
  • 🛑 Incomplete Service Alerts
  • 📅 Automated Scheduling (w/ urgent toggles + key drop alerts)
  • 📊 Fleet History Logs for Compliance and Future Planning

We didn’t need bells and whistles—we needed clarity and control.

Why We Built In-House

  • Off-the-shelf tools didn’t integrate with how we operate
  • I needed direct access to improve features on the fly
  • I wanted my team to own our data and roadmap
  • Our customers deserved something built for them, not just retrofitted

Partnering With Developers Abroad

To make it real, I worked directly with a dev team in the states. Weekly calls. Clear milestones. And a relentless focus on user experience for both our techs and fleet customers.

Every feature started with the question:
“Will this save time or reduce mistakes?”

If it didn’t, we scrapped it.

The Outcome

  • Faster job turnarounds
  • Fewer customer complaints
  • Happier techs
  • More repeat business

And most importantly: a scalable system that grows with us.

If the tools don’t exist, build them. That’s what founders do.
